Rock N Blues Legend Eric Burdon on The Afternoon Drive Car Phone FM 98.5 CKWR
Eric Burdon has one of the most influential and powerful voices in the annals of music.
There has been so much written about him – and he influenced so many singers through the decades from Jim Morrison of The Doors who became his good friend, to Detroit rock rebels MC5.
In this interview we chat about Burdon's crazy days on British weekly television live music programs “Top of the Pops” and “Ready Steady Go”, and his chance meeting with childhood blues heroes Jimmy Witherspoon and Big Joe Turner. Burdon, speaks about his time with Witherspoon. He produced and sang on Witherspoon's 1971 album “Guilty” the first album he did after he left the band War. He had some unforgettable times.
The singer has a fascinating insight which links his timeless war anthem to current film “Eye in the Sky” as he dub drones "The New “Sky Pilot.”
Songs include – “House of the Rising Sun”, “We Gotta Get Outta This Place”, “Please Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood”, “Inside Looking Out”, and “Water” from Burdon's 2013 album - “Till the River Runs Dry.”
**Eric Burdon has been a music hero of mine since I was 10 years old living in Belfast and listening to countless 45's from his revolutionary band The Animals and beyond. He is a hero to many in music for his fabulous voice and songs which shook up and shaped rock and roll history for all time to come.
And I thank him for being there .. “when I was young..” **
A Very Special Thanks to Eric and to Marianna Burdon, for setting up the interview.
